Jimmy Vernon Horton age 77 of Effingham, formerly of McColl, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 after an extended illness.
Jimmy was born November 23, 1944 in Tatum, SC a son of the late Charles and Bessie Jordan Horton. He was a retired machinist having worked at Laurinburg Machine Shop and at Springs Mills. Jimmy loved hanging around the Florence Flea Market. He enjoyed listening to Jimmy Swaggart’s preaching and singing. He also loved a cold Coca-Cola in the small, glass bottles.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Kevin Horton.
Jimmy is survived by sons; Jimmy Horton, Jr (Tamara) of Florence, Chris Horton (Whitney) of Lumberton, NC. A daughter; Donna Horton (Bobby) of McColl. Brothers; Wilson Horton (Cheri) of Murrells Inlet, Donnie Horton (Joy) of McColl, and Charles Horton (Shane) of Walterboro. A sister; Peggy Horton of McColl. Ten grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. His K-9 companion, Sam; Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Burroughs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
